Detroit Lions center Dominic Raiola is being accused of verbally insulting the sexuality and physical appearance of members of the University of Wisconsin band who performed at Lambeau Field on Sunday. Band members said he insulted them in pregame and then again at halftime.
The Lions played the Green Bay Packers Sunday.
According to the director of bands at Wisconsin, the incident happened before they played the national anthem. He said 8-12 students came up to him to explain what happened.
One of the members who was insulted said Raiola questioned his sexuality and started making comments about his sister and his mother who has recently passed away. He said Raiola then called one of the band members fat and couldn’t play a real sport. Then at halftime, he called one of the girls in the band a c***.
The band plans on filing a complaint against the Lions. The team said they are aware of the accusations and are looking into the situation. He could be disciplined by the team if his comments are true.
** Raiola has been fined twice by the league for confrontations with fans. He was fined $7,500 in 2008 for making a gesture at Lions fans and $15,000 when he got into an argument with a Miami Dolphins fan
