President Obama hosted Green Bay Packers at the White House to congratulate them for winning the Super Bowl. With the usual Executive Branch pagentry, Obama -- who's admittedly a die-hard fan of the rival Chicago Bears and joked "this hurts a little bit" -- paid special note to Aaron Rodgers and Charles Woodson before twisting the knife a little deeper in Jay Cutler's back...
First there were kind words about the Packers organization, via PFT:
Obama said of his vocal support of the Bears. “Charles said if the president doesn’t want to come watch us at the Super Bowl, then we’re going to him. . . . Charles, you’re a man of your word. And I’ve learned something that every NFL quarterback knows: Don’t mess with Charles Woodson.Today 112,000 people own a piece of this franchise — it is the only publicly owned team in pro sports,” Obama said. “Even a Bears fan can admit that the relationship between Green Bay and its team is something special."
Then the Most Powerful Person in The Universe became a shareholder in the Packers organization before dissing the Bears all-too-easy-to-hate quarterback, Jay Cutler:
Woodson then presented Obama with a stock certificate making him a team shareholder. That gave Obama a chance to congratulate Rodgers — and take a shot at Bears qu arterback Jay Cutler. “If I’m a part owner,” Obama said, “I think we should initiate a trade to send Rodgers down to the Bears.”
Ouch, though I can't imagine a diss on Cutler is going to hurt come Re-Election time.
