The new honorary face of Cover Girl isn’t your typical celebrity ambassador.
Joining past “Cover Girls,” Pink, Sofia Vergara and Taylor Swift, the beauty
brand has named 13-year-old YouTube sensation and cancer survivor, Talia Joy
Castellano, as its newest model.
Ellen Degeneres surprised Castellano
with the exciting news during an interview on her show last month, and today,
Cover Girl released the campaign, starring the young beauty blogger.
Why
did Cover Girl pick the 13-year-old?
Not only has Catellano been battling
neuroblastoma and leukemia, but she has been an inspiration to other teenagers
across the country for the last six years for her YouTube tutorials, which
stemmed from her passion for the beauty industry.
Since she isn’t a fan
of wigs, the seventh grader turned to makeup to counter the hair loss she
experienced from her cancer treatments. Catellano shared her tricks for bringing
out her best features in video tutorials that she shared on YouTube.
The
video beauty blog, which attracted over 14 million viewers, allowed Catellano to
put a positive spin on her battle with cancer and focus on the
positive.
She told Ellen, “I feel if someone’s looking at me, they’re
looking at my make-up, not looking at my bald head.”
“I am just trying to
make young girls, young adults, adults, anyone, feel beautiful by using
make-up,” Castellano added.
So what does the young beauty blogger think of her new role?
After
Degeneres revealed the Cover Girl offer to Castellano on The Ellen Show, she was
so happy, she didn’t know what to do with herself. ”I’m shaking I love you so
much!” she gushed to Degeneres.
