Dave Grohl admitted he invited ex-Nirvana bandmate Krist Novoselic to play on the Foo Fighters new album because he felt he had moved "out of the shadow" of his old band.

Grohl said: "I invited Krist to come down as we were making it, we haven't been in the studio together for 20 years. I've tried to establish this band in its own right and try to get out of the shadow of Nirvana and I do that in the most respectful way. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Nirvana, I owe everything to that band."
