ELLIE GOULDING’S SLOW AND STEADY CLIMB UP THE CHARTS

Ellie Goulding’s breakthrough hit, “Lights,” is up three spots to number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  The song has been steadily rising the chart for a year and peaks at the number two this week, just behind Carly Rae Jepsen’s debut single, “Call Me Maybe,” which has topped the chart for nine straight weeks.  “Lights” is the title track off Goulding’s debut album, which was released back in 2010.  The song has sold over 2.7-million copies and has slowly and steadily inched up the charts in the U-S, much to her surprise.  The ironic twist is that U-K singer is now focused on her new single, titled “Anything Could Happen,” which was released last week.  It is the first single off her new album, Halcyon, which arrives on October 9th

BEASTIE BOYS FILE SUIT AGAINST MONSTER ENERGY DRINK

Last Tuesday, the will of the late AdamMCAYauch was filed in a New York court. One of the stipulations of his will was that none of his artistic property, including his music, could be used in any advertisements of any sort. Later on that day, the Beastie Boys filed a lawsuit against Monster Energy Drink for doing just that. MTV News is reporting that Monster Energy Drink was never granted a license to use the tracks "Sabotage," "So What'cha Want" and "Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun" in their 2012 Ruckus in the Rockies promo video and are now faced with the prospect of paying hefty damages for the alleged copyright infringement.
