GOTYE DENIES ALLEGATIONS OF DYING


Gotye had to deny his own death. Over the weekend, someone posted an unvetted iReport on CNN.com that the singer had committed suicide with a 9mm handgun and was pronounced dead at a Melbourne Hospital. The report even stated that his family had confirmed his death. Many fans believed the report to be true, especially after the singer had become despondent over the recent theft of his van. The news of his own death reached Gotye and he quickly released a statement via Twitter stating “I’m not dead.”

DEMI LOVATO DENIES SHE’S DATING ONE DIRECTION MEMBER


Demi Lovato is shutting down rumors about her personal life. The singer and X Factor judge has once again denied she’s dating Niall Horan of the pop band One Direction. She thinks the boy band star is sweet but told MTV News that she’s “single at the moment and [she] plans to be for a long time because [she] needs to focus on [her] career.” MTVNews.com has more.

PINK’S LATEST SINGLE LEAKED


Pink is showing off her girl power in her latest single. Perez Hilton leaked the new song, “Blow Me (One Last Kiss),” yesterday on his website. With help from producer Kelly Clarkson, the track has the potential to be the latest breakup pop anthem. It combines an upbeat instrumental and Pink’s signature edginess. She announced the tune last month and it’s expected come out to radio next week.

IDOL RUNNER UP SANCHEZ LANDS RECORD DEAL WITH INTERSCOPE


Although American Idol runner-up Jessica Sanchez did not capture the show’s coveted title, she did end up with a pretty sweet deal because of it.  According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 16-year-old has landed a record deal with Jimmy Iovine’s Interscope Records. Interscope is also home to American Idol’s season 11 winner, Philip Philips. Although details about her first album are vague at the moment, it is expected out in October and will have an urban-flavored sound to it.  Sanchez is also getting ready for the Idol summer tour, which kicks off on Friday in Detroit.

KATY PERRY DAZZLES RED CARPET WITH VERSACE DRESS


Katy Perry dazzled the red carpet at the Australian premiere of her movie, Part of Me.  According to PerezHilton.com, the singer wore a gold Versace dress covered with crucifixes.  The outfit got people asking if it is a reference to her Christian upbringing.  Meanwhile, Part of Me comes out here on Thursday.

JUSTIN BIEBER GRADUATES HIGH SCHOOL


Justin Bieber can now put a high school diploma on his mantle along with his collection of awards. The teenage pop star has graduated from St. Michael Catholic Secondary School in his hometown of Stratford, Ontario. He missed the school’s commencement ceremony but Bieber was listed as one of 192 students in the graduating class. With high school all wrapped up, he can now harness all his focus on his upcoming Believe tour. He’s set to kick it off in late September in Glendale, Arizona.

CARLY RAE JEPSEN ANNOUNCES FALL ALBUM RELEASE


Carly Rae Jepsen has ruled the summer with “Call Me Maybe,” and now it seems she wants to rule the fall. The overnight pop star told MTV that the release of her debut album is “pretty close.” The Canadian singer revealed that the album will come out just before she begins touring as the opening act on Justin Bieber’s upcoming tour, which begins in September. That’s less than three months until Jepsen fans rejoice over an album’s worth of potential chart-topping songs.

RIHANNA’S GRANDMOTHER DIES

Rihanna’s latest concert might have been one of her toughest. The pop star’s grandmother, Dolly, died over the weekend, reportedly from cancer. Rihanna, who was in Sweden for a show at the Peace & Love music festival, went on after hearing the news. According to MTV.com, she added an emotionally-charged cover of Bob Marley’s “Redemption Song” to her set and appeared shakier than usual. The singer spent the next day posting a series of photos to her Instagram account in her “GranGran’s” memory.

ADELE DIDN’T LOVE BEING AWAY FROM HOME


Adele recently announced that she and her boyfriend, Simon Konecki, are expecting a child together. That’s going to be a big adjustment for the singer and will probably make her want to be around her trusted family and friends. When we last caught up with Adele, she told us that when her fame started escalating, she had to get used to being far from home. DOCUMENTARY ABOUT GEORGE MARTIN OUT SOON


George Martin is best known as the famed Beatles producer, but he is much more than that, and you can learn more about the legendary Brit in a new documentary.  It’s called Produced by George Martin and profiles the producer from his childhood to his early days in music to his work with comedy records and of course, his time with the Beatles.  The film features interviews with Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Jeff Beck, Rick Rubin, T-Bone Burnett and many others.  Get it on DVD, Blu-ray and digital video on September 11th.

  • TIDBIT: The movie was originally broadcast last year as part of the BBC’s Arena series but this latest version boasts over 50 minutes of additional interviews that weren’t on the TV edition.

WHO GAVE JUSTIN BIEBER A FRIENDSHIP RING?


It appears that someone likes singer Justin Bieber so much that he went as far as getting him a ring.  The main question is: Who is the one who gave Bieber this expensive piece of jewelry?  It’s Big Sean!  According to E! Online, Bieber’s manager, Scooter Braun, explained, “When they first met, Sean has this ring.  It was his first ring he ever bought…He said, ‘I know you said you liked it, and I want to say thank you for involving me in the process and being a part of this.  And I want you to have the ring.’” The two musicians appeared on Bieber’s newest album, Believe, on the song “As Long As You Love Me.”

LMFAO STILL BREAKING RECORDS WITH “PARTY ROCK ANTHEM”


LMFAO’s breakthrough single, “Party Rock Anthem” featuring Lauren Bennett and GoonRock, is locked at number 45 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.  According to Billboard, at 66 weeks on the chart, the song passes Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” for the longest residence by a number one hit in the tally’s 54-year history.  The song has sold over 6.9-million copies and the video for the track has been viewed over 456-million times. 

LINKIN PARK TOP U-K ALBUM CHART!


Linkin Park's new album, Living Things, debuted at number one on the U-K charts this week.  It marks the Los Angeles-based band’s third chart-topping album in the U-K following 2003's Meteora and 2008’s Minutes To Midnight. According to the Official Charts Company, LP sold over 41-thousand copies of the effort, just three-thousand units more than Maroon 5’s Overexposed, which came in at number two.  Meanwhile, will.i.am’s latest single, “This is Love” featuring Eva Simmons, sold a whopping 102-thousand copies in its first week to top the U-K singles chart.  

SPARKLE SOUNDTRACK

The Sparkle soundtrack features 11-songs including two recordings by the late-Whitney Houston: the gospel song “His Eye is On the Sparrow” and “Celebrate,” a duet with co-star Jordin Sparks, which was produced by R. Kelly. According to The Hollywood Reporter, both tracks will be released as singles. Cee Lo Green also makes an appearance on the compilation with its opening track, “I’m A Man.” Meanwhile, Sparks is featured on six songs.  Sparkle, which marks Houston’s final film appearance, will light up theaters on August 17th.  The soundtrack arrives in stores on July 31st.
