KATY PERRY TO BE AN AMERICAN IDOL JUDGE?


Earlier this week, it was rumored that Adam Lambert was in the running to be a judge on American Idol next year, and now, some other big names are in the mix as well. According to MTV News, show producers are also looking at Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus to be possible judges.  While show producers figure out who will be on the judges’ panel next year, auditions continue for Idol. The New Orleans tryouts begin on Sunday.

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TAYLOR SWIFT & JUSTIN BIEBER COLLAB?


Taylor Swift’s collaboration with Justin Bieber is just one of several tracks recorded for his Believe album that were left on the cutting room floor. The two shared the studio for a song a few months ago, but it was never released. Justin’s manager, Scooter Braun, tells MTV News that in the end, the song “didn’t make sense” for the album, but there’s “another record they want to work on.” Another Bieber duet that didn’t make the cut was a song he recorded with Kanye West.

JUSTIN BIEBER, SELENA GOMEZ AND MORE FOR THE DO SOMETHING AWARDS


Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus are among the nominees for VH1’s 2012 Do Something Awards.  The show honors young people who go above and beyond in their communities to make the world a better place.  The event will be hosted by New Girl stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield and Lamorne Morris.  Other nominees include Kristen Bell, Ben Affleck, Nicole Richie, Neil Patrick Harris, Channing Tatum and Emma Stone. The Do Something Awards will tape on August 19th in Santa Monica, California and will air August 21st on VH1.

GOTYE DONATES SONG TO FAMINE CAMPAIGN


The World Vision Organization’s 40 Hour Famine campaign to end world hunger just got a huge boost – Gotye has donated the song “Eyes Wide Open” to their annual fundraiser. The track will appear in commercials for the event, which takes place in New Zealand August 17th to the 19th. Participants raise money by agreeing to give up something they love, which is usually food, for 40 hours. The organizers hope to raise millions thanks to Gotye’s generous donation.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIMBERLY PERRY!


The Band Perry will be cutting some cake this month as two of the siblings celebrate July birthdays. Kimberly Perry turns 29 today (7/12), while her brother Neil Perry turns 22 on the 23rd The other Perry, Reid, doesn’t celebrate his birthday until November. Meanwhile, the group is working on their sophomore album, expected later this year.

DARIUS RUCKER REVEALS DETAILS BEHIND LADY A TRACK


The secret is out about the collaboration between Lady Antebellum and Darius Rucker! They will join forces on Darius’ upcoming third album by putting their spin on Old Medicine Crow’s hit “Wagon Wheel.” Darius says he and his producer Frank Rogers thought his former tour mates would be perfect for the song. Darius was once invited by Old Crow Medicine to perform “Wagon Wheel” with them on stage at the Grand Ole Opry. No word yet on when Darius will release his third album.

KILLERS NEW ALBUM COMING IN SEPTEMBER

The Killers have decided to set aside their solo projects to release their first album in four years. MTV News reports that the band’s new album, Battle Born, is to be released on September 18th. You can check out the trailer for Battle Born at its YouTube channel. “Runaways,” the first single off the album, was released this Tuesday and is available on iTunes now.

COLDPLAY COMMISSIONS SIX-PART COMIC BOOK SERIES BASED ON LATEST ALBUM


Coldplay are known for being experimental and explorative with both their music and videos. Now, they will take that attitude to a different medium, as the band has given the green light for a six-part comic book series based on their latest album, Mylo Xyloto. The book will be penned by Oscar-nominated writer and director Mark Osborne and will focus on the character of who is behind the concept for the album. The series will debut at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con.

CHRIS BROWN TOPS BILLBOARD ALBUM CHART!

Chris Brown tops the Billboard album chart with Fortune, which sold over 134-thousand copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album catapults 19 spots to number two, selling over 80-thousand copies thanks to the buzz surrounding her 3D movie Part of MeJustin Bieber holds at number three with Believe, Maroon 5 is down two spots to number four with Overexposed, while last week’s number one, Linkin Park’s Living Things, falls to number five. 

  • BILLBOARD TIDBITS: Gotye’s Making Mirrors leaps 25 spots to number six, Fun. jumps 16 notches to number seven with Some Nights and the Black Keys rocket 45 spots to number 10 with El CaminoAdele’s 21 falls to number nine, its lowest rank to date.  The album has sold over 9.5-million copies since its release 72 weeks ago.

It’s been 26 years since Peter Gabriel released his iconic record, So, and now, a Classic Rock DVD and Blu-Ray is coming out to describe the story behind the making of the effort.  On September 18th, you can get the disc and learn all about what went into hits like “Sledgehammer,” “Big Time” and “In Your Eyes.”  There are interviews with Peter, co-producer Daniel Lanois and more on the Classic Albums set so be sure to pick it up this fall.
