The Big record companies are losing money, and they want to make some of it back with a performance tax on Radio stations. That means people here in our building will lose their jobs, while the foreign owned record companies will continue to get richer.
For more than 80 years, radio and the recording industry have enjoyed a mutually beneficial relationship: free play for free promotion. And it works. The recording industry now wants to impose a fee – a performance tax – on local radio stations.
There's no question that a performance tax would financially hurt WIXX and all local stations, stifle new artists and harm the listening public who rely on free local radio.
In Wisconsin Senator Feingold voted to move this to the floor, in other words, he wants it to pass, he is against radio on this. Let him know how you feel about him giving the money from your salary to Foreign Owned Record Labels and super rich music stars like Bono, Fergi, Will I Am, Toby Keith, Miley Cyrus and on and on. Contact Senator Feingold and tell him you're against taking more local jobs and lining the pockets of the Rich with their salaries. You can call him at (202) 224-5323, or go here.
