This past Saturday members of the Hibbing Nordic High School Ski Team, along with citizen skiers, were at work on the ski trails out at Carey Lake in Hibbing. By the way just last week the Hibbing School Board voted to make cross country skiing an official school sport in Hibbing. It will be self supporting financially, but athletes will now be recognized by the school and be able to letter in Nordic Skiing.
Gerry and Ann work to cut back the edges of the Southern Lights Trail. If you look closely at the picture you can see the tell tale tracks of a skier. Gee I wonder who would have come out early before the trail clearing to ski?!
We had a great showing of volunteers to follow behind the brush cutters to clear the debris back into the woods. So when you ski the trails at Carey Lake this season you might notice what good shape they are in, and you can in part thank these volunteers for their work.
Remember a pass is required to ski at Carey Lake and they are available now at the Hibbing Park's office in the Memorial Building. The cost for the season is as follows:
Youth Pass - 12 and under - Free
Student Individual Pass - $15.00
Adult Individual Pass - $25.00
Family Pass - $60.00
Individual Daily Pass - $3.00 (deposit on site drop box
