TWO HARBORS, MN (KDAL) – A ceremony to honor the 29 crew members that perished when the Edmund Fitzgerald sank is being held Wednesday at the Split Rock Lighthouse.
The lighthouse, signal building and visitor center will all be open to the public throughout the day.
Costumed interpreters will provide historic site and shipwreck information and visitors can view a film about the Edmund Fitzgerald.
Then at 4:30 p-m, the lighthouse will temporarily close while the names of the crew are read to a tolling ship’s bell.
At that time, the beacon will be lit and the tower will again be open for tours.
The Fitzgerald and its crew were lost in a storm on Lake Superior on November 10th in 1975.
For those unable to attend the ceremony, the beacon lighting will also be streamed live on YouTube.
