How About Hearing a Different Tune?

by Rachel

I am always interested in experiencing live and local music and while on my quest to fill my schedule for this weekend I came across the The Rose Ensemble who will be performing this Friday night at the Hibbing High School Auditorium....and now you're like what? Who? Let me fill you in.....

The Rose Ensemble is a group of musicians and singers based in Saint Paul. They do different performances from ancient time periods. They study the music and stories and try to bring to life the repertoire that spans over thousands of years and several languages.

This is something I have never seen or heard of before in my time here in the Northland and lucky us they will be making a stop here on their 8th Annual Greater Minnesota Tour: The Roots of Bluegrass.

The theme of this program is explained on their website as "Return to America’s folk roots. Rousing hymns, Appalachian foot-stomping songs, Southern Harmony shape-note singing, and Shaker spirituals: the music that gave birth to bluegrass. "The Roots of Bluegrass" explores our country’s musical heritage with close vocal harmonies, banjo, guitar, and fiddle."

The performance is at 7:00p.m. this Friday night with tickets only costing $12. It is sure to be a very interesting and different musical entertainment than we are used to so why not get the first hand experience this weekend with The Rose Ensemble.
