Trick or Treating Tips

by Rachel

As you are probably aware by now, tomorrow is Halloween and many of us will be trick-or-treating in some form or another. Whether it be collecting candy, supervising the children, or handing out candy it is important to be safe.

Here are 10 helpful tips and hints to remain safe while trick-or-treating.

  1. Wear comfortable shoes. You are most likely going to be doing a lot of walking.
  2. Plan a route in advance. You want to stay in familiar neighborhood territory.
  3. Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags. It's dark out and you want to make sure that you can be seen very well by drivers and other trick-or-treaters.
  4. Avoid trick-or-treating alone. Walk in groups or with a trusted adult.
  5. Always walk, don't run from house to house. This will help you to avoid tripping over costume accessories and causing injury.
  6. Enjoy packaged candy that hasn't been tampered with. Don't eat anything that looks like it has been opened or anything homemade from strangers.
  7. Only visit well-lit houses. If a house is dark, there's a good chance they are out trick-or-treating too.
  8. Never go into a stranger's house to receive candy. Unless you are with a trusted adult.
  9. Don't eat any candy while trick-or-treating. You don't want to choke or eat something that isn't safe.
  10. Adults should check all candy before children enjoy candy. And then make sure to eat in moderation to avoid getting sick.

I hope you find these tips and hints helpful while trick-or-treating. Have fun, be safe and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
