(St. Paul, MN) -- Governor Pawlenty and officials from U-S Steel signed documents today transferring property on Lake Vermilion to the State of Minnesota, the first step in creating a new state park. The governor says it's a "unique opportunity." D-N-R Commissioner Mark Holsten calls it an "iconic state park," saying visitors will be awed by the landscape, and adds
it's also a prime walleye fishery. D-N-R officials say they have tentative plans to open areas of the park as early as mid-summer, with what they term "primitive day-use opportunities" as soon as possible.
