MEQUON, Wis. (WTAQ) - Prosecutors said a Mequon couple was killed because the father wouldn’t give his son $5 to gas up his car.
20-year-old Dennis Markov was charged in Ozaukee County yesterday with two counts of homicide in the shooting deaths of his 45-year-old father Victor and 39-year-old mother Larissa.
A judge set a $1 million bond, and a status hearing in the case is scheduled for May 11th.
Police found the parents’ bodies in the garage of their home on Tuesday. But prosecutors said the shootings actually occurred last Sunday night.
Markov reportedly got into an argument with his dad after he couldn’t get the gas money he wanted. Authorities said Markov then went to get a 22-caliber rifle, shot his father, and then his killed mother after she got home two hours later.
Officials said he took $30 from his father’s pocket, and $200 from the parents’ bedroom.
Two days later, Larissa’s employer called to ask why she had not been to work. Markov reportedly said his parents were on vacation – but the caller didn’t buy that and notified police.
Markov answered the door, and was arrested after officers found the bodies. The murders were the first in more than 5 years in Mequon, one of Milwaukee’s more upscale suburbs.
