GOP Redistricting Plan Proposed

ST. PAUL, Min. (MNN) -There's committee debate Tuesday on the House Republicans' plan for redrawing Minnesota's congressional district boundaries which is required after every census.  The plan could cause a serious problems with Democrat Tarryl Clark's plan to run against Republican Congressman Chip Cravaack.  Cravaack now represents Minnesota's Eighth District but that could change after new political boundaries are drawn.  Even if Cravaack and Clark wind up in the same district, political analyst Steven Schier says Clark would still face challenges.  He says it will depend on a number of things: "whether she is seen as a carpetbagger by moving to a new district, whether she's able to raise money as a result and how popular Cravaack is in the autumn of 2012."  Clark currently lives in the Sixth District but is buying a condo in Duluth which is now in the Eighth District.  Schier says despite all the political maneuvering, the courts will likely wind up drawing both legislative and congressional districts.
