FISH HATCHERY ROAD, MI (WKZO) --Van Buren County deputies have released the names of the two drivers involved in what may be an alcohol related collision near the county line. They say that 21-year-old Chad Koning of Bloomingdale was heading west on M-43 at an extremely high rate of speed in a BMW when he crashed into the rear end of a Pontiac Grand Am driven by 46-year-old Cary Wayne Decamp near Fish Hatchery Road.
The impact scattered debris all over the roadway, sending the Grand Am off the road and into the guy wire on a power pole. DeCamp was not seriously injured. The BMW rolled on for another 700 feet before going off the road and into several trees.
Koning was admitted to the Bronson Hospital Trauma Unit with multiple injuries. They aren’t releasing his current condition. He reportedly told accident investigators he had been drinking prior to the crash, and blood alcohol tests are part of the investigation.
