ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC News) - A 14-year-old Allegan girl is dead, while two drivers were hospitalized, after two separate accidents on one stretch of roadway in Allegan Township yesterday.
According to Allegan County Sheriff's Deputies, the first crash on 30th Street south of 122nd Avenue occurred shortly after 1 PM, when a vehicle slid off of the rain-slickened roadway and struck a tree. As a passerby stopped to assist, a second southbound vehicle, driven by 65-year-old Max Hillis Miller of Allegan. with his daughter Susanna Joy Miller as a front seat passenger, attempted to drive around the incident. That vehicle lost control and slid sideways into the northbound lanes, where it was broadsided by a northbound vehicle driven by 56-year-old Lester Walter King of Allegan.
Susanna Miller was taken to Allegan General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by the Allegan County Medical Examiner's Office. Max Miller and King were taken to separate hospitals in stable condition.
As of Monday afternoon, there was still was no initial word on the circumstances surrounding the first crash. Both accidents remain under investigation.
