The Minnesota Department of Commerce is reminding residents to take preventative action now with regards to ice dams to avoid a potentially costly home repair should water leak into the attic and damage ceilings. State Commerce Commissioner Mike Rothman said a good first step is to eliminate attic air leaks around wires, plumbing vents and light fixtures. He added chimneys should be sealed with caulking or expanding spray foam, and attic insulation should be installed.
