Powerful Storm Trudges On Slowly Through The Northland; Bitter Cold This Weekend

by

Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Snowflakes filled the air for most of Tuesday as the first major winter storm continues to slowly pass through the region.  Snowfall totals in excess of 12 inches are common around the Northland and the National Weather Service says another 8-15 inches is possible, with higher amounts up the North Shore, between now and Wednesday evening.  Roads through the Twin Ports were, for the most part, slushy though just outside of Cloquet and Canyon conditions worsened.  The first storm of the season closed Duluth schools Tuesday.  Already neighboring districts have announced that classes will be cancelled.  Barnum and Cloquet Schools will be closed Wednesday due to the snow. Click HERE for the latest closings, cancellations and delays.

Once the snow stops, KDAL Chief Meteorologist Tony Schumacher says bitter cold temperatures will settle in for the weekend.  They aren't likely to depart next week.  The NWS says wind chills could bottom out at 30 to 40 degrees below zero between Friday night and Monday.
