DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Work has been progressing at a steady pace under the southbound lanes of I-35 near the Mesaba-Superior Street on-ramp. A crane placed steel beam braces there last week so crews could safely work underneath the roadway. Several corroded piers were discovered and are being repaired. The steel beam braces will be removed later this week and, if all goes as planned, traffic could resume by early next week. That will be great news for motorists who have been detoured onto busy city streets to bypass the closed section of southbound I-35 between Lake Avenue and 21st Avenue West.
