DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office has released the name of the woman suspected in assaulting  two family members with a knife and starting a fire in the family's basement near Orr Thursday. Melanie Rose Porter, 27, appeared in St. Louis County Court in Hibbing Friday and was charged with second degree assault, terroristic threats and first degree arson. She is currently being held at the St. Louis County Jail in Duluth. Bail is set at $50,000. Porter's next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 14. According to a news release, an ambulance and first responders were called to the scene but no medical treatment was needed; family members extinguished the fire and restrained Porter until authorities arrived.
