Minnesotan Receives Major Presidential Honor

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KDAL) - Mary Jo Copeland, founder of Minneapolis-based Sharing and Caring Hands, on Friday was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal by President Barack Obama at the White House. Copeland received the nation's second-highest citizen honor for her charitable work through Sharing and Caring, a non-profit which provides shelter and food to those in need. Sen. Amy Klobuchar joined Copeland at the reception. Copeland, who started the organization in 1985, was one of 18 selected from 6,000 nominees. She was also recognized by President George W. Bush as a leader in faith-based charitable initiatives.
