MADISON, WI (KDAL) - Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker today announced a plan to invest $475.6 in new money to the state's public education system as part of the two-year budget proposal he'll soon call on lawmakers to pass. The announcement comes two years after Walker cut $800 million in education aid. The new dollars would focus on performance, accountability, achievement and teacher development. Wisconsin ranks among the bottom in reading and math according to some studies, and Walker's budget proposal would aim to help improve that. The budget announcement includes some dollars to help fund a controversial proposal to provide money for Wisconsin college students willing to major in high-demand fields where jobs are needed.
