Duluth, MN (KDAL) - A Federal Jury ruled against Hallet Dock Company of Duluth in the sinking five years ago of the Walter J. McCarthy Junior. The one thousand foot lake carrier was backing into a slip in Superior for winter tie-up when it struck a submerged object and sunk in twenty feet of water. After several weeks of testimony in a Duluth Court Room the ruling was that Hallet had to pay the American Steamship Company four point seven million dollars for not warning the captain of the vessel that there was an underwater hazard at the dock.
