County Announces More Pharma Drop Boxes

DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - St. Louis County announced Friday it would add seven pharmaceutical drop boxes for residents to dispose of prescription medications in a safe way. The county's Environmental Services department set up the boxes, where many forms of medications can be dropped off anonymously. These include pills, capsules, blister packs, creams and gels, inhalers, IV bags, liquids, patches, powders, sprays and vials. Not okay for the drop boxes are needles, syringes, lancets and thermometers, as well as medications from businesses. Customers' names may be crossed off the containers, but it is not required. The seven new drop boxes are at the Virginia Sheriff's Department; Hibbing Sheriff's Department; Babbitt Police Department; Gilbert Police Department/City Hall; Eveleth Police Department; Ely City Hall; and Floodwood City Hall. Duluth, Hermantown and Proctor all have drop boxes through the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District. Contents of the drop boxes go to Fosston, MN, where they are incinerated.
