Duluth, MN (KDAL) - The Leif Erickson Viking Ship will soon be getting a facelift, thanks to a team effort planned later this week. The 87 year-old vessel will be moved Thursday morning to the Duluth Parks and Recreation Building near 40th Ave West, from its current home in Leif Erickson Park, off of London Road. Once there the ship will be repaired and eventually transferred to its new home. Prospective locations have been identified, but not announced. Five Viant Crane employees and many of the Superior-based company’s cranes will be used to transport the ship along its journey. That’ll cost anywhere from 25-to-30-thousand dollars, a sum that Viant says it will donate.
