UW-Superior Athletics has announced that Nick Bursik (Woodbury, Minn./Stillwater) has been named as the head coach of the Yellowjacket baseball program on an interim basis. Bursik replaces Eddy Morgan, who resigned as head coach in June to take the head coach position at Concordia University Wisconsin.
Bursik spent last season as an assistant coach with the Yellowjackets, working with the team’s pitchers.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to lead the only collegiate program I have ever known. The baseball program has continued to grow and succeed under Coach Morgan’s tenure and I plan to continue that development,” Bursik said. “We have a great group of returning players and recruits that can truly make our upcoming season special. Alumni and community support will always be a pillar of this program as well, and I am grateful for all the support I have already received. I’d like to thank athletics director Steve Nelson, the athletic department, and the University for believing in me and giving me this opportunity.”
A native of Stillwater, Minn., Bursik spent four seasons as a pitcher for the Yellowjackets, appearing in 40 games over four seasons. He was awarded the team’s Pitcher of the Year award in 2011 and also received the athletic department award as the top male scholar-athlete in 2011 and 2012 for his scholastic accomplishments.
“The timing of this has been tough, as it falls right in the middle of the baseball recruiting season. Fortunately we have someone like Nick in house to take over the program on an interim basis,” Nelson said. “Nick is young and excited to be in this position and we are very confident that he will do a tremendous job running the program and helping the program to continue to grow and be a contender in the WIAC.”
Bursik graduated from UW-Superior in 2012 with Bachelor of Science degrees in business administration with a concentration in marketing and business administration with a concentration in management.
