DULUTH, MN (KDAL)- The Lake Superior Zoo announced on Friday morning that a baby Angolan colobus monkey has been born. The birth of the new baby monkey was a surprise for the zoo as they had gotten the breeding recommendation approved through the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. Primate keeper Dave Thompson states, "We were hopeful because of the possibility, but not immediately expecting this birth." The sex of the new baby Angolan colobus monkey is unknown at this time. This is the first Association of Zoos and Aquariums Species Survival Plan birth, which is an important conservation effort for captive Angolan colobus in the United States.
