DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - It was a synthetic drugs luncheon at the Kitchi Gammi Club on Friday. No, the hot-button drugs weren't on the menu. Synthetics were the topic of the most-recent Medical Milestones education luncheon organized by the St. Luke's Foundation. Dr. Nicholas Van Deelen, medical director for the St. Luke's emergency department, and Police Chief Gordon Ramsay were the keynote speakers. Van Deelen told the crowd of about 125 that synthetic drug abusers represent the greatest number of patients from any one set of substances. The goal of the lunch was to raise awareness of what they see as a problem, and support efforts to fight it.
