Police Release More Details About Fatal Shooting

Duluth, MN (KDAL) - More details have been released following a fatal shooting in Duluth this morning.  Duluth Police say the incident began when officers were dispatched to a one-vehicle crash in the area of Orange Street and Arlington Avenue where the driver had fled.  Two officers tracked the owner of the vehicle down to the 300 block of East Locust Street, where they encountered a man with a handgun.  Officers say they radioed for help and for more than three minutes repeatedly ordered the 26 year-old subject to comply with their orders.  When they tried to take him into custody, investigators say he reached for the area where the gun was located.  That’s when both officers fired their weapons.  The Duluth man was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is being withheld pending family notification.  Neither of the officers were hurt.  One is a five-year veteran of the department while the other has been on the department for four years.  Per department policy both will be placed on paid administrative leave.
