DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Vivian, one of the two Lake Superior Zoo Harbor Seals displaced by the June flood, has died following emergency exploratory surgery in St. Paul. After observing weight loss and lethargy, teams from the Como Park Zoo and the University of Minnesota performed the surgery that found considerable scar tissue from a December stomach surgery and the intestine fused to itself. After considering the findings and prognosis, the team made the difficult decision to euthanize her. She was 23. Harbor seals typically live to be 30- to 35-years-old. Vivian and her sister Feisty became famous following the June flooding of their exhibit, which allowed for their temporary escape. Feisty was photographed hanging out on Grand Avenue and Vivian was found nearby.
