ST. PAUL, MN (KDAL) - The slapshot had pinpoint accuracy, just under the cross-bar on the glove side. And with that, with just six seconds remaining in a tied state championship game, the St. Thomas Academy Cadets put the dagger in the Hermantown Hawks. It was another back-and-forth, physical and heart-pounding game for Hermantown, which seemed ready to execute its Cinderella tale and finally beat the Cadets after suffering back-to-back state championship losses. But the goal from St. Thomas sophomore Tommy Novak ended it, and the private school from Mendota Heights notched their third straight.
In the Class 2A championship, Edina beat Hill Murray 4-2. Edina had narrowly defeated Duluth East on Friday.
