(WNFL) - U-W Eau Claire is picked to be men’s hockey champions of the W-I-A-C. That’s according to a pre-season poll of the league’s coaches and sports information directors. This is the first year that teams will compete solely under the banner of the W-I-A-C, after playing in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association in past seasons. Eau Claire won the N-C-A-A Division-Three championship a year ago, with a team-record 24 victories. The Blugolds went 10-and-2 against W-I-A-C opponents last season. U-W Stevens Point is projected to take second and River Falls third.Wisconsin Lutheran is the pre-season favorite to win its fourth straight women's basketball title in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. The Warriors from Milwaukee received 18-of-24 first-place votes from the league's coaches and sports information directors. Wisconsin Lutheran went undefeated in league play last year, with a 25-and-3 overall record. It won its division in each of the five years the N-A-C-C has had divisional play. This year, the league is going back to non-divisional standings for both men's and women's basketball. Concordia-Wisconsin is picked to finish second, Benedictine third, and Lakeland fourth.
