(WNFL) - The Marquette women's soccer team clinched the first regular-season title in the re-organized Big East Conference, with a 6-nothing home win yesterday over Providence. Maegan Kelly scored twice for the Golden Eagles, who improved to 8-and-0 in conference play with one match left. Marquette is also 15-and-3 overall.The Wisconsin women lost a 1-nothing match at Indiana yesterday. Abby Smith scored the lone goal in the 78th minute, as the Badgers dropped their regular season road finale. Wisconsin dropped to 4-5-and-1 in the conference and 9-6-and-2 overall.
The Marquette volleyball team is 7-and-1 in the new Big East Conference, after sweeping Georgetown at home in three sets. Freshman outside hitter Autumn Bailey had 18 kills and 11 digs for the Golden Eagles, who are now 15-and-5 overall.The Wisconsin volleyball team has dropped into a fourth-place tie in the Big Ten, after a 3-1 home loss to Illinois yesterday. The Badgers out-performed Illinois in almost every statistical category. Wisconsin out-hit the Illini .218 to .204. The Badgers also had 59 kills to Illinois' 57, and 21 errors to 24 for the victors. Deme Morales had 17 kills for Wisconsin, as it fell to 6-and-4 in the Big Ten and 17-and-5 overall.
