SUPERIOR, WI (KDAL) - Lights and other equipment orignally used to grow marijuana are now being used to grow tomatoes at Bay Produce, a division of the Challenge Center in Superior. The pot growing equipment was seized by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Department as part of investigations over the last three years. Some of the gear was brand new and still in the boxes. Although forfeited items seized in drug cases are typically auctioned off, law enforcement wanted to ensure these items would not end up being used again for growing marijuana. Sheriff Ross Litman says putting this type of equipment to good use is a bonus for the community. The Challenge Center is a non profit organization that offers group homes and creative work environments, like Bay Produce, for people with developmental disabilities.
