DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - The Coast Guard Cutter Morro Bay was towed to Duluth after suffering rudder damage while ice breaking in the Thunder Bay area last week. Repairs were made to the rudder by crews working underwater on Monday and the ship made a test run Tuesday morning. If everything went well, the cutter is expected to resume ice breaking duties on Lake Superior. It is not known at this time if damage to the bolts that holds the rudder in place was due to heavy ice on the lake or if it was a pre-existing problem. Until the Morro Bay resumes ice breaking operations it is docked behind the DECC in Duluth.
