DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Duluth Mayor Don Ness, Chief Administrative Officer Dave Montgomery and the Manager of Maintenance Operations, Kelly Fleissner held a news conference on Wednesday to announce a doubling of pothole filling efforts this spring. Thanks to city departments reducing their budgets, Duluth has had a budget surplus in each of the last five years. The majority of the 2013 surplus, about 400 thousand dollars, will be used this year for increasing the city's pothole repair program. Besides additional material, the funds will allow the hiring of 23 additional seasonal employees. Fleissner says there will be five pothole filling crews and 2 crack sealing crews working on the problem that was made worse by the unusually cold winter.
