DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Even though last month was a cold one, the National Weather Service says the average temperature for January was 1.6 degrees, just the 18th coldest on record. January of 1912 takes the honors as the coldest first month of the year with an average temp of 7.2 below zero. The most recent year to make the top ten coldest January's was 1994 at number 5 with an average of 2.1 degrees below zero. No daily low temperature records were set in Duluth during January of 2014 and a 36 day streak of daily low temperatures of single digits above or colder ended on January 9th. Looking ahead, the 30 year normal average temperature for February is 10.3 degrees.
