Frigid Rescue Tuesday Morning; Driver Extricated

Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Duluth fire crews say they discovered a man trapped in his car off of Congdon Boulevard Tuesday morning following a crash.  According to authorities, the car had gone over the guard rail in the 87-hundred block of Congdon and down 50 to 75 feet where it had come to rest next to Lake Superior.  To free the driver and lone occupant, firefighters were forced to extricate him.  They then had to move him up the cliff by way of a Stokes stretcher and a rope haul system.  The driver, who has not been identified, was somewhat conscious but very cold.  Authorities say the vehicle was cold to the touch, indicating that he had been there for some time.  At the time of the rescue the air temperature was 13-degrees below zero.
