DULUTH, MN (KDAL) - Over a thousand people from all around Minnesota and on both sides of the issue attended a public hearing at the DECC Thursday night. The DNR sponsored meeting was designed to get public input on the Supplemental Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the proposed PolyMet copper-nickel mining project in northeastern Minnesota. Supporters stressed the job opportunities the mine would bring to the state but those against the project feel the environment would be at risk. Two more public meetings are scheduled this month, at the Mesabi East High School in Aurora on January 22nd and at the St. Paul River Center on January 28th. Comments are also taken at the DNR website (http://www.mndnr.gov/polymet).
