Duluth, MN (KDAL) - The Superior police officer at the center of an investigation into an allegation of excessive force has been placed on administrative leave. Superior police say the assignment shouldn’t be seen as a disciplinary action as no finding of a violation of policy or law has been determined. Natasha Lancour is suing the department saying Officer George Gothner used excessive force in detaining her. A video of the incident shows Officer Gothner slamming Lancour into the hood of a squad car and then punching her in the face. Investigators have sent the video to an outside use of force instructor for an unbiased opinion. They’ve done the same with a short segment of video taken with a cell phone. The clip was sent in to Superior police via an email and in an anonymous fashion. Anyone who witnessed the incident or may know of people who were there is asked to contact Superior Police.
