Duluth, MN (KDAL) - The task force struck with studying the therapeutic benefits of medical marijuana has been assembled and it features a Northland pharmacist. Governor Mark Dayton announced the 16 appointments Thursday. Among those tapped to serve on the task force is pharmacist Laura Schwartzwald of Aitkin. According to the state board of pharmacy, Schwartzwald owns and operates pharmacies in Grand Marais, Redwood Falls, Rochester, Brainerd and Worthington. The registered pharmacist has been in the trade for 22 years in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Her appointment runs until January 5th. As part of legislation legalizing medicinal marijuana use, lawmakers also approved the creation of the Task Force on Medical Cannabis Therapeutic Research. The group includes, consumers, health care providers, law enforcement, parents, substance abuse treatment providers as well as an attorney. Schwartzwald is the task force’s only pharmacist.
