Duluth, MN (KDAL) - The cleanup continues after a line of potent thunderstorms pummeled the region early Tuesday morning with high winds. The National Weather Service logged wind gusts around the region anywhere from 40 miles per hour up to 74 miles per hour. The latter was recorded in northeast of Floodwood by a co-operative weather observer. Besides downing large trees around the region, which knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses, high winds also flipped a dock on Embarrass Lake. They also tore some walls from buildings just west of Highway 53 south of Eveleth and destroyed a hangar and the plane inside at the Eveleth-Virginia Airport. Two other airport hangars were damaged and the roof of a garage was blown off. Meanwhile, one spotter east of Hayward reported three-quarter inch hail covering the ground. The good news is that tranquil weather is expected for a couple of days.
