Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Authorities have released the identity of a pilot who died after their plane crashed into Lake Superior over the weekend.  While the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office hasn’t made an official identification, the sheriff’s office says they believe Alexander Georg Obersteg of Steinfeld, Germany, was the sole victim and owner of the single-engine plane involved in that crash.  Divers recovered the 47 year-old man’s body on Monday from the wreckage.  Video of the wreckage on the bottom of Lake Superior, more than 130 feet down, can be watched by clicking on http://youtu.be/kt1PEhyZsKE.  Investigators believe Obersteg was on his way back home and was slated to stop in Goose Bay, Canada, next.  He had just taken off from the Duluth International Airport when the crash happened.  While the cause of the crash remains under investigation, the medical examiner’s office has ruled out the possibility of a medical emergency contributing to the crash.  Authorities are now working on plans to recover the wreckage.
