Duluth, MN (KDAL) - Help is on the way to flood-ravaged portions of the Arrowhead. Governor Mark Dayton on Thursday declared a State of Emergency in Koochiching and St. Louis Counties. 33 other counties were included in the declaration, which makes a wide range of state resources available to those areas affected by the recent bouts of severe weather. It also engages state agencies in response efforts. The governor has also dispatched 100 National Guard troops to the International Falls area to assist sand bagging efforts in the area. Several inches of rain this month has sent lakes and rivers across the border region out of their banks. The American Red Cross reports that it has served more than 400 meals and has handed out over 1500 bottles of water and Gatorade to volunteers fighting back the swollen rivers and lakes from yards and resorts.
