Highest 4th of July Gas Prices Since 2008

Gas Prices on the Rise
Gas Prices on the Rise

UNDATED (KDAL) - The AAA is predicting a record 34.8 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more during the upcoming 4th of July Holiday Weekend despite high gas prices.  Gas prices are averaging 3.68 a gallon nationwide which is about 20 cents higher than the same period last year.  It is also the highest since the summer of 2008 when the price averaged 4.10 per gallon.  The increase is primarily the result of the current unrest in Iraq, the second largest oil producer in OPEC, where those concerns are driving up global oil prices.  The average price now in Minnesota is 3.58 for regular unleaded while prices in the Twin Ports range from 3.59 to 3.69 a gallon.
