HIBBING, MN (KDAL) - St. Louis County Sheriff Ross Litman recognized several individuals at Tuesday's County Board meeting with the 911 Life Saver Awards. The awards were presented for the life savings efforts in two incidents that occurred during the past year. Four of the five people in a vehicle that crashed into the side of a semi near Cook last July are alive today because fo the quick response and creative thinking of 40 emergency responders who helped in rescuing the trapped occupants of the car. The other incident was a fire in Meadowlands that trapped the couple who lived there inside. Firefighters battled the flames to enter the house and rescue the couple. Although one person died, the other survived because of the bravery and coordinated efforts of 16 first responders. Since 1993, St. Louis County has recognized the efforts of people who have worked together, often risking their own safety, to save others.
