Duluth, MN (KDAL) - For the second time a Florida man’s journey to steer people away from suicide has taken him through Duluth. Steve Fugate arrived into the Zenith City Labor Day. He’s en route to LaCrosse. The 65 year-old has walked across the country seven times and is in the middle of his eighth trek, which zigzags through the lower 48. Fugate was a business owner in 1999 when he lost his son to suicide. At the time of his son’s death, Fugate was hiking for the first time in the Appalachian Mountains. After the tragedy, Fugate completed his hike and realized that he wasn’t the only parent to lose a child. From that point on, he’s dedicated himself to spread the message, ‘Love Life’. Fugate first came to Duluth along Highway Two, which he walked all the way from Everett, Washington, ultimately to the Mackinaw Bridge in Michigan. Fugate talked about his journey to 7-10 W-D-S-M’s Brad Bennett, Tuesday morning.
