DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – The City of Duluth has named five collections sites for the disposal of road sand, salt and other by-products of winter street maintenance.
Residents are being asked to sweep up and collect sand left on the boulevards, sidewalks, curbs and gutters before it washes into area streams and Lake Superior.
Over the last several years, Duluthians have averaged 15 tons of sand dropped off at the collections sites.
Disposal dumpsters labeled “Road Sand Collection” will be located at Wheeler Field, Piedmont Community Center, Chester Park, the Duluth Heights Community Center and Portman Park through the month of May.
City street sweepers will also be out cleaning streets as quickly as possible this spring.
