DULUTH, MN (KDAL) – Now that the Spice Lake wildfire is fully contained, the Superior National Forest will decrease the emergency closure area in the BWCA.
Beginning Thursday morning, the previous 100,000 acre closed area will be reduced to a thousand acres.
Public entry will still be prohibited on six lakes along with thirteen campsites and eight portages.
With the fire 100 percent contained, the Type 3 team brought in to manage the suppression of the blaze is transitioning out of the area.
Additional emergency support is on standby as the forecast may increase the opportunity of new wildfire activity in northern Minnesota.
The lakes now affected by the new Forest Emergency Order are:
Annie Lake
Kingfisher Lake
Skindance Lake
Ogishkemuncie Lake
Spice Lake
Tickle Lake
